Karen Irizarry is
originally from New Jersey and studied Architecture at Virginia Polytechnic and
State University. She was first introduced to the wine industry upon her
arrival to San Diego, California in 2008. Karen developed her passion for wine
while working under Advanced Sommelier and Wine Director, Brian Donegan, at one
of San Diego’s top restaurants, Market Restaurant and Bar.
Karen’s passion for food
and wine is reflected in the topics she explores daily from blind tasting to
researching new wines regions to food recipes and wine pairings. An enduring
love of food, wine and travel has prompted her journey around the world to
further her education in the food and wine industry and creating a blog,
whiteorred.blogspot.com: an online publication with the mission of documenting
her travel and sharing her daily inspirations with readers.
Karen has worked vintages in Australia and Germany and is currently working vintage in New Zealand. Outside of the food and
wine world, Karen enjoys running, hiking, snowboarding, scuba diving, reading and
photography.
